TERM 3

Fotobabble

http://www.fotobabble.com/

This is my Fotobabble of the book I'm reading, 100% Hero. I hope you like it.

This Fotobabble took me a while to make because it was my first time doing it. Sometimes it was too fast, then it was too slow. I had to re-record 4 times! It was fun doing it and it looks really good. I used a microphone and sometimes it might pop a bit when you listen to it.

BEHIND THE SCENES

This is a reponse to questions we had to answer about a picture.

Book Week Quiz

For Book Week, we made a quiz about one of the Shortlisted Books. This black and white picture below is called a QR code.Scan it with an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad and it will take you to our quiz. If you don't have one of the above, take it below.

While doing this activity, I learnt how to make an online quiz and review it. The activity has helped me with my comprehension and knowing what the main idea and plot is. A challenging part was coming up with meaningful questions that will draw the reader's attention. My favourite part was seeing the finished quiz on my wiki page.

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about Wordle and Tagxedo. These are two browser-based sites that let you paste in a bunch of text and it will create a picture for you. You can just go to the websites or use a search engine. Here are some of mine.

Aloha Xavier.
I've been checking out the wiki while I was in Hawaii and noticed you had put some new work on your page. I read your character interview and also your letter to the author. I enjoyed them both and was so pleased to see what a great job you did as an independent learner while I wasn't in the classroom last week. Thank you for working so well and doing such a great job!

Book Trailers

For our reading group this term, (Term 4) we have been making book trailers. The winner of each category will win a Popcorn Award and the trailer that wins in the most categories will win the Golden Popcorn Award. Here are some of the reflections questions I answered:

What did you enjoy most about the task?

Working with my partner Daniel and watching the finished movie. It was really good to see all our work pay off and it was really fun to work together with Daniel.

What was your biggest challenge?

Finding pictures that were copyright-free to put in the movie. Most pictures on the internet are protected by copyright, so we went to fan-based sites that were copyright-free to find the pictures. It took a while, but eventually we found a few sites and used their pictures in our movie. We had to acknowledge them though.

What skills have you learned from the task?

How I can find music and pictures that are copyright-free and how to put an exciting book trailer together.

MY MOVIE: DIARY OF A WIMPY KID - DOG DAYS!

Speaking and Listening

During our reading group, we have been doing some speaking and listening activities. We were given a generic question at random about our chosen novel and had to answer it orally.
At the moment, I am reading a book by J.K Rowling, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Here is some information on what happened:

QUESTION: What was your favourite part of the book?
ANSWER: My favourite part of the book is towards the end. It is where Harry and Ron find the entry to the Chamber of Secrets and find out what is inside. It has a lot of suspense and surprises and that is why it is my favourite part.

(I am not giving away too much of my answer as it would give the ending away)

From this activity, I have learnt that I need to add more expression to my voice when I am reading. This will help to engage the reader and to add more emotion or suspense to my answer.
